Through the real time capture of transactions, PIMS provides real time data that are available nationally that informs decisions at BPS. The system is designed to enhance information sharing through integration to other government departments; promotes the single entry of information eliminating duplicate record capturing increasing efficiencies and reducing erroneous data entry and will standardise operational processes throughout Botswana Prisons.

The PIMS System is a full information management systems designed to support all the departments within the Prison Services and includes 4 major system modules, Inmate Management similar to that of IIMS although the prison processes and rules for sentence calculations differ substantially. PIMS also includes full Staff Management which handles the recruitment, training programmes and assessment of BPS Staff working in the Correctional Centres. Fleet Management including vehicle procurement, maintenance and allocation of vehicles, Farm Management including livestock, crop and land management, this module also is integrated with the rehabilitation submodule.
